We see how the Damsel drew her sword and saved her village from the monsters. 若非 means "if not for", 巾帼, while literally meaning a young woman's accessories, refers to the Damsel here, 拔剑 means "drawing sword", and 人皆命丧 to put it bluntly, means "everyone dies". This refers to the monsters that demanded for the children of Damsel's village and how that led to a calamity. 邪牲 here has its meaning along the lines of demons and monsters, 祭 means "ritual" and 祸殃 means "calamity". In these 2 lines we see how Yun Jin's father intended for the Damsel to be written originally.

Here, 痴人 (a fool) clearly refers to Shenhe's father becoming mad and resentful from his wife's death and later on, making many horrible decisions for Shenhe. In this case, 痴 may mean "foolish" or "deranged", 怨恨 means "resentment" and 迷狂 means "madness". As a parallel to this behaviour, the swan geese here symbolise farewell, and refers to Shenhe's parents leaving each other via her mother passing on. 秋鸿 here refers to swan geese (鸿雁) in the autumn specifically the migratory behaviour of swan geese flying to the south for winter. Other than that, this opening line literally means “worthy of praise” or "admirable", seemingly a proclamation of the Damsel's actions in the story to be told, but more likely just a line to start the story. I would like to point out that 可叹 is coincidentally the title of a poem by 杜甫, written during the Tang Dynasty. However, Chinese literature is something of another beast altogether so please understand if this analysis is. I am Chinese-literate, and I was an English literature and English linguistics student back in school.
